The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has charged the newly promoted staff of the Scheme to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence and to continually project the good image of the NYSC before the Nigerian public.
Speaking at the presentation of promotion letters to the ten new Directors at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, General Nafiu reminded them that elevation to higher ranks comes with increased responsibility. He urged them not to relent in their efforts but to do more in service to the Scheme and the nation.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” the DG stressed. “There is more work ahead that needs to be done, and I trust that God will imbue you with the grace to meet the demands of your new ranks.”
The NYSC boss further charged the new Directors to be role models worthy of emulation by their subordinates, underscoring the importance of integrity, diligence, and discipline in leadership.
The ten officers who attained the rank of Director are Florence Yaakugh, Caroline Embu, Stephen Dewan, Rachel Idaewor, Agatha Banki Okolo, Chinyere Ekwe, Anthony Nzoka, Olusegun Alao, Levi Agim, and Nura Umar.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Caroline Embu, the 2025 promotion exercise also produced significant elevation across the NYSC workforce. A total of 1,150 staff members sat for the exercise, 924 senior and 226 junior officers with 72.6 percent successfully promoted.
Among them, 39 officers were promoted to salary grade level 16 as Deputy Directors, while 54 others moved up to grade level 15 as Assistant Directors. In addition, 593 officers were promoted across other senior staff categories.
The exercise also lifted 139 junior staff on salary grade level 06 to grade level 07, effectively ushering them into the senior staff cadre.
General Nafiu, while congratulating all the beneficiaries of the exercise, reiterated that promotion should be seen as a call to greater service. He emphasized that the NYSC remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring institutions, whose relevance and credibility depend largely on the commitment of its workforce.
The DG’s message was clear: those entrusted with higher responsibilities must rise to the occasion, project the ideals of the Scheme, and continue to serve as worthy ambassadors of the NYSC across the country.
