The Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) has expressed readiness to partner with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in building the capacity of Corps Members through specialized training in digital content creation, story writing, mentorship, and other aspects of the creative industry.

The President of the Guild, Mr. Uche Agbo, made this known when he led a delegation of members of the DGN on a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja. Acting Director, Information and Public Relations of the NYSC, Caroline Embu, disclosed this in an official statement.

Mr. Agbo explained that the Guild was ready to establish a framework that would enable Corps Members to showcase their creative potentials, stressing that the initiative was part of DGN’s vision of harnessing the talents of young Nigerians who were passionate about building a career in the film and digital content industry. While submitting a formal proposal for the collaboration, he noted that the programme, which would be rolled out in phases, was designed to help Corps Members develop practical skills in storytelling and content creation.

According to him, the first phase of the partnership, which falls under DGN’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), would begin with sensitization programmes during the Corps Members’ Orientation Camps across the country. He emphasized that there was an urgent need to nurture young Nigerians with passion for the film industry, saying the creative sector remained one of the most dynamic platforms for youth development and empowerment.

In his response, Brigadier General Nafiu commended the Directors Guild of Nigeria for considering the NYSC as a strategic partner in its youth development initiatives. He described the Scheme as a household name in the country with a track record of more than 52 years in moulding character, instilling leadership skills, and fostering national unity among Nigerian youths.

He assured the Guild of NYSC’s willingness to welcome innovative ideas and collaborations that would further add value to the lives of Corps Members. “The Scheme is passionate about skills empowerment for Corps Members because they are smart, creative, and also need assistance. The intervention of the creative industry will be a boost to the NYSC SAED programme as it will further expose Corps Members to the world,” the NYSC boss stated.

General Nafiu further pledged that the DGN proposal would be given due consideration, noting that such collaborations align with the core objectives of the NYSC in preparing young Nigerians for self-reliance and nation-building.
