The leadership of the Action Alliance (AA) has formally petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding an immediate correction of what it describes as erroneous records regarding the dates of its most recent state congresses and national convention.

In a letter jointly signed by the National Chairman, Chief Barr. Kenneth Udeze, and the National Secretary, Vernimbe A. James, the party expressed strong concern over a document circulated by INEC’s Election and Party Monitoring Department, Political Party Monitoring Division, which allegedly misrepresented the actual dates of the party’s key political activities.

According to the AA, the party conducted its elective ward, local government area, and state congresses nationwide, culminating in a national convention held between January and February 2025. Specifically, the party insists that the last date for its state congresses was 8th February 2025, while the national convention was held on 22nd February 2025.

The party stated that it had formally notified the Commission of these congresses and convention dates ahead of the events and provided the appropriate documentation. “The notification letter of the congresses and national convention sent to the Commission is attached as Annexure A,” the letter stated.

AA further emphasized that the national convention of 22nd February 2025 was duly monitored by officials of INEC, and a comprehensive report of the exercise exists within the Commission’s records. “For the sake of clarity and to avoid further distortion of facts, Action Alliance (AA) held its last elective national convention on 22nd February, 2025, duly monitored by the officials of the Commission. The Commission monitoring report of the said last national convention is attached as Annexure B,” the party wrote.

Expressing dismay over the perceived discrepancy, the party lamented that despite INEC’s direct involvement and awareness of the correct dates, the department in question still released inaccurate information that contradicts the party’s official records. “The party is disturbed that despite the Commission fully being aware of the correct last dates, the Election and Party Monitoring Department still released the wrong information,” the letter stated, citing the document as Annexure C.

The Action Alliance has now called on INEC to urgently rectify its public records to reflect the accurate dates 8th February 2025 for the last state congresses and 22nd February 2025 for the national convention. The party insists that correcting the record is not only necessary for accuracy but vital to the integrity of party monitoring and political documentation.

In closing, the party conveyed its continued regard for the Commission.

The development underscores the growing demand by political parties for precision and accountability in the internal records and oversight mechanisms managed by Nigeria’s electoral body.
