The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), CON, OFR, has joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a true statesman, patriot, and servant-leader whose life was devoted to the service of Nigeria.
In a heartfelt tribute issued on Monday, July 14, 2025, Marwa expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences on behalf of his family to the bereaved Buhari family. He praised the late President’s steadfast commitment to duty, courage in adversity, and sense of responsibility to the Nigerian people.
“Former President Buhari will be remembered for his steadfast efforts to restore discipline in governance, and pursuit of security and stability during some of the most challenging periods in our national history,” Marwa stated. “His administration championed infrastructural development, advanced agricultural reform, and sought to lay the groundwork for self-sufficiency and national pride.”
Marwa described Buhari as a leader of rare integrity, who inspired calm amidst uncertainty and led with quiet strength. He noted that the late President’s personal discipline, simplicity, and principled leadership set him apart in both his roles—as military Head of State and later as a democratically elected President.
“His integrity, simplicity, and personal discipline set him apart as a leader whose actions often spoke louder than words,” Marwa said. “His dedication to public service was evident, from his early days in uniform to his return to power with a vision of national rebirth.”
Beyond his political and military career, Marwa also highlighted Buhari’s humility, deep faith, and enduring moral compass as hallmarks of his leadership style, stating that his concern for the well-being of ordinary Nigerians defined his public life.
“He remained a man of principle, guided by a strong moral compass and a genuine concern for the well-being of ordinary citizens,” Marwa added. “His leadership was rooted in service, and his legacy will endure in the hearts and memories of Nigerians who believed in his vision of a stronger and more just nation.”
While mourning the loss, the NDLEA Chairman affirmed that Buhari’s contributions to national development would continue to inspire future generations. He extended prayers for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
“His legacy shall continue to inspire generations to come, and history will remember him kindly,” Marwa said.
