The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, His Excellency Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away on Sunday in London. He described the loss as a significant blow to the nation, particularly at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with complex national challenges.

In a statement signed by Patience Ituke, Principal Superintendent of Press, the Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family and noted that the former President’s passing is not only a personal loss to his loved ones but a great loss to the entire nation he served with unwavering dedication and purpose.

Dr. Matawalle commended the critical strides made under President Buhari’s leadership, particularly in strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and empowering the Armed Forces to confront insecurity across the country. He said the Buhari administration laid a strong foundation for military revitalization and national security reform, which remain invaluable to Nigeria’s stability.

He also praised the late President’s leadership style, describing him as a man of resilience, integrity, and vision whose policies were rooted in patriotism and national interest.

“President Buhari will be remembered for his resilience, focus on national integrity, and visionary leadership aimed at fostering a prosperous Nigeria,” Matawalle stated.

He added that the legacy of the former President would continue to inspire future generations, especially as the country navigates the path of nation-building amid evolving challenges.

“The legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire future generations as we navigate the challenges of nation-building,” he said.

Dr. Matawalle concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant his family and all Nigerians the strength to bear the loss of a man he described as one of the nation’s most committed and principled leaders.
