In a determined effort to enhance strategic communication and promote gender-sensitive policing, the Nigeria Police Force has partnered with the CLEEN Foundation to conduct a specialized training programme for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) across the country. The training focuses on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and strategies for preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the second phase of the training began on Monday, July 8, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos State, and is scheduled to run until Thursday, July 10, 2025. This phase follows the first edition, which was held from June 24 to 26 in Kaduna State.

Declaring the training open on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Oluhundare Jimoh Moshood, underscored the strategic importance of communication in fostering public trust and transparency. He emphasised that public relations officers play a critical role in shaping the image of the Police Force and bridging the gap between law enforcement and citizens.

The IGP noted that the SBCC training was both timely and essential, particularly in today’s information-driven society where effective communication is central to countering misinformation, promoting behavioural change, and building public confidence.

“This training is designed to equip our spokespersons with the skills necessary to manage public perception effectively, engage diverse communities empathetically, and foster trust through transparency and professionalism,” the IGP stated.

Participants from police commands across the southern region of the country are in attendance for the Lagos edition. The sessions will cover crucial thematic areas such as audience analysis, persuasive messaging, behaviour change techniques, digital media utilisation, and inclusive engagement with vulnerable groups.

The programme also aims to strengthen the capacity of PPROs to address and prevent gender-based violence by adopting communication strategies that are sensitive, responsive, and aligned with human rights principles.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to a citizen-centered approach to policing, driven by continuous training, collaboration with stakeholders, and effective public engagement.

The initiative, spearheaded in collaboration with the CLEEN Foundation, reflects the broader vision of the IGP to institutionalise professionalism, accountability, and people-oriented policing across the country.
