The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has received a significant boost in its counterterrorism and stabilization efforts in the Lake Chad region with the donation of five swamp buggies by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Borno State Government.

The specialized equipment, designed to enhance mobility in challenging riverine terrains, was officially handed over during a commissioning ceremony held at the Navy Base, Lake Chad Fish Dam. Representing the Governor of Borno State, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, commissioned the buggies, reaffirming the commitment of political leadership in the region to support ongoing security and economic revitalization efforts.

According to an official statement signed by the Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the swamp buggies are expected to play a crucial role in waterway clearance operations, facilitating safer navigation routes and paving the way for the resumption of economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin.

Speaking at the event, the Force Commander of MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, expressed deep appreciation to the Borno State Government and the NEDC for their strategic intervention. He emphasized that the swamp buggies will significantly enhance the Task Force’s riverine operational capacity and improve rapid response capabilities in tackling terrorist threats.

“These swamp buggies represent not just tools for mobility, but a clear symbol of renewed partnership and commitment to peace and development in the region,” General Mutkut stated. He added that the additional logistics support will help sustain the MNJTF’s momentum in its mission to restore stability and security across the Lake Chad Basin.

The event was attended by a high-profile delegation, including Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur, Governor of the Region of Lake Chad, General Saleh Haggar Tidjani, MNJTF military commanders, traditional leaders, and senior government officials from both Borno State and the Lake Chad region.

The joint donation underscores the growing synergy between civil authorities and the MNJTF in tackling the root causes of insecurity, and signals a strong, united front in the shared goal of returning peace, prosperity, and normalcy to the Lake Chad Basin.
