The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has firmly debunked recent reports circulating online and in some media outlets suggesting the removal of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, describing the claims as baseless, malicious, and deliberately concocted to mislead the public.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, the OSGF categorically stated that there is no truth whatsoever to the rumour, which it labelled “entirely false, misleading, and lacking any basis in fact.” The office made it clear that President Tinubu has no intention now or in the future of removing Senator Akume from his role as SGF.

“The purported removal of the SGF from office is nothing but a fabrication and a figment of the imagination of mischief makers who are bent on disinforming and misinforming innocent Nigerians,” the statement read. “Such acts are not only irresponsible but also a direct assault on the integrity of national institutions.”

Reiterating the President’s full backing, the OSGF emphasized that President Tinubu continues to repose unwavering confidence in Senator Akume’s capacity to discharge his responsibilities, particularly in formulating and implementing key policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The office also condemned the spread of fake news, urging the public, media houses, and digital platforms to disregard the rumour and instead uphold journalistic responsibility by verifying the authenticity of information before publication. It warned that the deliberate circulation of falsehoods undermines public trust and constitutes a dangerous threat to democratic governance.

Furthermore, the OSGF aligned with a prior statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Chief Bayo Onanuga, affirming that the administration’s position on Senator Akume’s standing remains unchanged.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded, reinforcing the message that the presidency will not tolerate attempts to destabilize the administration through falsehoods and orchestrated smear campaigns.
