In a bold move to mark World Environment Day 2025, The Ebaidebheki Initiative (TEI) , a female-led nonprofit championing sustainability education and climate advocacy has unveiled two groundbreaking initiatives aimed at tackling environmental challenges through innovation and youth empowerment.

The first launch saw the introduction of “The Green Squad”, an environmental leadership club established in schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This initiative seeks to nurture the next generation of climate-conscious leaders by embedding sustainability into the daily learning experience of Nigerian teens. Through hands-on activities, environmental challenges, and mentorship, The Green Squad is poised to turn climate concern into climate action ,starting from the classroom.
Speaking at the launch event, Ebaide, a co-founder of TEI, noted: “We cannot win the fight for our planet without the voices, energy, and creativity of young people. The Green Squad gives them a platform to lead, innovate, and inspire change right where they are.”
In a parallel stride, TEI also launched its Plastic Innovation Project, a campaign designed to spotlight and support homegrown solutions to plastic pollution in Africa. With innovation hubs and competitions planned for rollout in partnership with local inventors, recyclers, and tech-driven startups, the project aims to turn plastic waste into opportunity — from eco-bricks to wearable art.
Both launches underscore TEI’s commitment to real-time, grassroots climate action that centers young people as drivers of change.
As Nigeria continues to face the dual threats of environmental degradation and plastic waste, TEI’s timely initiatives represent a call to action for stakeholders from government to the private sector to invest in youth-led and innovation-driven sustainability efforts.
