The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), Engineer Jane Egerton-Idehen, has assured of the agency’s continuous support and commitment to advancing the operations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), particularly in the area of satellite television broadcasting.
According to an official signed statement made available by Caroline Embu, Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, the NIGCOMSAT boss made this known during a courtesy visit to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
Engineer Egerton-Idehen, while briefing her host, disclosed that NIGCOMSAT has been transmitting the signals of NYSC Television across the globe through its free-to-air satellite technology since February 2025. She noted that the gesture was a product of the strategic partnership between the two sister organizations aimed at promoting national service and enhancing the visibility of the NYSC scheme.
She emphasized that her visit was primarily to reaffirm NIGCOMSAT’s unwavering dedication to its existing agreement with NYSC, not only to sustain its services but to consistently improve their quality and reach.
“We remain fully committed to the NYSC/NIGCOMSAT partnership and are determined to offer the best satellite broadcasting support to ensure that NYSC TV reaches the widest audience possible, with clear signals and consistent transmission,” she said.
Commending General Nafiu on his appointment as the 20th Director General of NYSC, the NIGCOMSAT Managing Director lauded the Scheme for its pivotal role in fostering national unity, integration, and sustainable development.
She also praised the NYSC for its long-standing tradition of grooming young Nigerian graduates through structured leadership and entrepreneurial training, stressing that Corps Members have remained indispensable in building national capacity.
Engineer Egerton-Idehen further cited the impressive contributions of Corps Members posted to NIGCOMSAT over the years, noting their immense value in driving innovation and operational efficiency within the organization.
“In the last 10 years, we have had over 2,000 Corps Members serve in our establishment. I can boldly say that their contributions have been monumental. They brought in fresh ideas, digital innovations, and energy that have significantly enhanced our service delivery,” she remarked.
In his response, Brigadier General Nafiu expressed gratitude to NIGCOMSAT for providing NYSC with a robust satellite platform which has enabled the NYSC Television to beam its content globally. He stated that the collaboration had given the Scheme an effective channel to showcase its activities, thereby promoting greater public awareness and support.
The NYSC Director General reaffirmed the resolve of his administration to uphold and advance the objectives for which the Scheme was founded 52 years ago.
“Since our establishment on 22nd May, 1973, the NYSC has continued to grow stronger, year after year. We are now charting new frontiers by modernizing our operations and aligning with national priorities. Our goal is to remain relevant in today’s dynamic environment and to deliver greater impact,” he said.
General Nafiu also assured his guest that efforts were being intensified to improve the quality of content on both NYSC Radio and Television, adding that these platforms would continue to serve as veritable tools for enlightening the public on the activities of the Scheme and the achievements of Nigerian youths under national service.
“As we reposition NYSC Radio and TV, we will ensure that their programmes reflect professionalism, creativity and national relevance. These platforms will remain instrumental in telling the NYSC story to Nigeria and the world,” the Director General stated.
The meeting between both organizations reinforced the shared commitment to leveraging technology for national development, and highlighted the critical role of inter-agency collaboration in driving public service excellence.
