The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has carried out an emergency assessment of five communities in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State severely affected by thunderstorm and windstorm incidents that occurred on the 7th and 8th of April, 2025.

The on-the-spot assessment was conducted by the Yola Operations Office of NEMA in collaboration with the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA). The joint team, led by Mr. Musa Yakubu of NEMA, visited the affected communities of Yerimaru, Leme Bora, Maisamari, Alhaji Kata, and Nguroje.

According to preliminary findings, the storm wreaked significant havoc—roofs of several homes were torn off, and many households lost essential belongings including food items, beverages, clothing, and furniture. In Leme Bora, the storm also led to the death of multiple cattle, compounding the hardship faced by the residents.

Displaced persons from the affected areas are currently seeking temporary shelter with relatives and friends within nearby communities. During the assessment, Mr. Yakubu conveyed the agency’s heartfelt sympathy to the victims and assured them that NEMA, in collaboration with other stakeholders, would work to provide appropriate relief assistance.

NEMA also reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in times of disaster and called on community leaders to remain in communication with the agency to ensure effective and timely intervention.
