In a move to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and advance national fiscal goals, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, received the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, on a courtesy visit at the Customs Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

During the visit, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the pivotal role of the Office of the Accountant-General in the effective management of national revenue, describing the engagement as both timely and symbolic. He highlighted the significance of deepening cooperation between both institutions to align with the country’s broader economic and financial objectives.

“The Office of the Accountant-General is central to national revenue management, and this visit underscores our shared commitment to fiscal stability. It is a remarkable step in fostering greater synergy between our agencies,” the CGC stated.

Adeniyi reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s dedication to closing fiscal gaps through strategic innovations and enhanced operational discipline. He cited the Service’s performance in 2024, where it recorded over a 70% increase in revenue generation, as a clear reflection of its resolve to support the government’s financial goals.

“We are fully aware of the economic challenges facing the country, particularly in public revenue generation. The Service remains committed to doing its part to improve government finances through diligence and innovation,” he added.

He also took the opportunity to congratulate Ogunjimi on his recent appointment as the Accountant-General of the Federation, commending his proactive leadership and interest in inter-agency cooperation.

Responding to Ogunjimi’s proposal for a collaborative training framework involving staff from both offices, CGC Adeniyi expressed strong support for the initiative. He assured the AGF that the NCS would actively participate in the capacity-building programme aimed at enhancing institutional understanding and joint efficiency.

In his remarks, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised the CGC’s forward-thinking leadership. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between government bodies to achieve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public finance.

“This collaboration marks the beginning of a robust partnership. I propose the inclusion of Customs officers in joint training sessions with our office to foster mutual understanding and operational cohesion,” Ogunjimi said.

He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote capacity building, transparency, and accountability within Nigeria’s public financial management framework.

The visit highlighted a shared vision between the two institutions to enhance national revenue generation, improve public sector training, and promote transparent governance through strategic partnerships.
