INEC Debunks Report on Destroying Uncollected PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a misleading newspaper report claiming it plans to destroy over six million uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). In a statement, INEC described the report as “incorrect,” stating that at no time did the Commission contemplate destroying the uncollected PVCs.

Members of the public are urged to verify information from credible sources before sharing and have been advised to disregard the story. INEC’s clarification comes amidst discussions on improving the voting process, including proposals to introduce alternative identification methods, such as computer-generated slips or downloads from the Commission’s website.

This development follows the publication of INEC’s comprehensive report on the 2023 general elections, which highlighted the need to address the longstanding issue of uncollected PVCs and improve voter participation.
