The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N1.42 trillion in revenue and processed 99,839 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) between September and October 2026, underscoring its sustained efforts to boost government revenue, facilitate legitimate trade and strengthen customs administration.

The figures were disclosed by the Service’s National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, during a joint security briefing at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), on November 5, 2026.

According to Maiwada, the Service’s operational performance during the two-month period reflected improvements in trade documentation, digital interventions and collaboration with stakeholders across the trade value chain.

A breakdown of the revenue figures showed that the NCS generated N697.84 billion in September and N722.91 billion in October, bringing its total collection to N1.42 trillion.

The Service also processed 48,832 Single Goods Declarations in September and 51,007 in October, amounting to 99,839 declarations. Similarly, 9,195 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports (PAARs) were processed within the period, comprising 2,102 in September and 7,093 in October.

In the export sector, the NCS recorded a 22.14 per cent increase in export value at the Lilypond Export Command, with transactions rising from $586.15 million in the third quarter of 2025 to $752.85 million in the corresponding period of 2026.

The development reflects growing export activities and the impact of measures introduced by the Service to facilitate non-oil exports and strengthen Nigeria’s participation in international trade.

Beyond revenue generation and trade facilitation, the Service sustained its anti-smuggling operations, recording seizures of prohibited and restricted items with a combined Duty Paid Value exceeding N8.1 billion during the period.

The intercepted items included illicit drugs, pharmaceutical products, prohibited goods and petroleum products, with the Service working alongside relevant regulatory and security agencies to ensure appropriate handling and disposition of the seized items.

On efforts to combat financial crimes, the NCS highlighted its ongoing partnership with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) through a four-week mentoring mission inaugurated on October 19, 2026, to strengthen its capacity to identify, investigate and tackle trade-based money laundering and other illicit financial activities associated with cross-border transactions.

As part of the initiative, the Service engaged six relevant agencies between October 27 and 29, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

The Service also disclosed that it had transitioned to an electronic currency declaration platform to improve transparency, strengthen financial monitoring and enhance the detection of illicit financial flows across the nation’s borders.

In another development, the NCS reported the rescue of six live pangolins in separate operations in Ogun State as part of its contribution to wildlife conservation and the enforcement of international environmental protection agreements.

Three pangolins were rescued by the Ogun I Area Command, while the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, recovered the other three.

The rescued animals were subsequently handed over to the Green Fingers Wildlife Conservation Initiative for care and rehabilitation in line with Nigeria’s obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
