Troops of the Nigerian Army have sustained their offensive operations against kidnapping networks in Kogi State, neutralising three suspected kidnappers and recovering four AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines and 336 rounds of ammunition during a follow-up operation in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted on November 4, 2026, involved troops of the 12 Composite Brigade, under the newly established 5 Division Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with personnel of the Kogi State Vigilance Service (KSVS).
According to an official statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the operation followed earlier raid and exploitation operations targeting suspected kidnappers operating in Edimogbo Forest.
The statement disclosed that the joint security team extended its search from Edimogbo Forest towards the general area of Obele Forest in pursuit of fleeing criminal elements.
During the operation, the suspected kidnappers reportedly attempted to escape upon sighting the advancing security personnel but were engaged, resulting in the neutralisation of three suspects.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 336 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three bandoliers and an identity card.
The Army said the operation underscored its sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks through continuous offensive operations, intelligence-driven patrols and targeted exploitation of identified criminal hideouts.
It added that maintaining operational dominance in the affected areas was aimed at denying kidnappers freedom of action and restoring confidence among residents of vulnerable communities.
The Commander, 12 Composite Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops and personnel of the Kogi State Vigilance Service for their resilience, professionalism and operational effectiveness.
He urged them to sustain the momentum and remain vigilant in ensuring that criminal elements were denied safe havens within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.
The Nigerian Army reassured residents of Kogi State and neighbouring communities of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
