The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has commended the Nigerian Navy team for emerging champion at the 2026 National Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Cyber Drill Finals, describing the feat as a testament to the personnel’s discipline, dedication and professionalism.
According to an official statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the competition was organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with SecDojo on October 27, 2026, during the National Cyber Security Conference (NCSC) 2026.
The victorious Navy team comprised Lieutenant Commander JE Peter, Lieutenant YS Danladi, Lieutenant MM Huseini, Sub-Lieutenant IB Gaya and Sub-Lieutenant A Adam, who demonstrated their technical expertise to secure the top position in the national competition.
Vice Admiral Abbas congratulated the officers on their achievement and urged them to sustain the Nigerian Navy’s high professional standards while applying their specialised knowledge to strengthen naval operations and enhance maritime security.
The competition tested participants’ proficiency in offensive security, application security, threat detection, incident investigation and defensive cyber operations through realistic simulated scenarios designed to assess their ability to identify, investigate and respond to cyber threats.
The Navy’s victory highlights the Service’s growing expertise in cybersecurity and its commitment to developing specialised capabilities in emerging digital technologies.
The achievement also underscores the increasing importance of cybersecurity in modern military operations, particularly in protecting information systems and critical digital infrastructure against threats capable of compromising sensitive information and disrupting operational effectiveness.
The Nigerian Navy’s success at the competition reflects its investment in technical competence and professional development as it continues to strengthen its capacity to address evolving security challenges in the digital domain.
The recognition by the CNS further reinforces the importance of equipping naval personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills to support secure digital operations and contribute to Nigeria’s broader national security objectives.
