Troops of the 12 Composite Brigade of the Nigerian Army have foiled a terrorists’ abduction attempt and rescued 11 passengers along Kabba-Ayere Road in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to an official statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the incident occurred on October 18, 2026, when troops on routine patrol responded to credible intelligence about terrorists attempting to abduct passengers travelling in a commercial vehicle along the route.

The statement said the troops, deployed at the patrol base in Kabba, engaged the terrorists on arrival at the scene, forcing them to abandon the passengers and flee into the surrounding bush.

It added that nine passengers, including the driver of the commercial vehicle, were rescued during the encounter, while the driver and two other passengers who sustained injuries were evacuated for medical attention.

The commercial vehicle was subsequently handed over to the appropriate authority, according to the statement.

In a follow-up operation on October 19, the troops combed the general area and rescued two additional passengers who had fled into the bush during the confrontation, bringing the total number of rescued victims to 11.

The Brigade said the operation underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring the safety of commuters across Kogi State.

It urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.

The statement reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to sustain efforts to safeguard lives and property and ensure the security of residents across Kogi State.
