The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across several states, arresting suspected armed robbers and other criminal suspects, recovering a stolen Lexus SUV, firearms and ammunition, while intensifying operations to rescue abducted victims and contain security threats.

The operations, contained in the Force’s state-by-state operational summary for October 16, 2026, also included responses to suspected terrorist attacks, banditry, abduction, alleged defilement and a suspected murder.

According to an official update issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate were arrested in Oyo State over alleged vehicle snatching along the Oyo-Ibadan Expressway.

The police recovered a stolen, unregistered black Lexus 350 SUV, while information obtained from the suspects reportedly led to the arrest of two alleged receivers in Lagos State. The Vehicle Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Ibadan, is investigating the case.

In Ebonyi State, police operatives on stop-and-search duty intercepted and arrested a suspect riding an unregistered motorcycle suspected to have been stolen. Two locally made pistols, 11 live cartridges and an Android phone were recovered as exhibits.

In a separate incident in the state, police arrested a 35-year-old suspect following a report involving the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl. The victim was taken to hospital for medical examination and was reported to be stable, while the investigation continues at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abakaliki.

In Rivers State, detectives arrested a suspect following allegations of assault, threats to life and unlawful possession of firearms. A search of the suspect’s residence reportedly yielded 20 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, a machete and a toy gun. The SCID in Port Harcourt is handling the investigation.

Similarly, police operatives in Nasarawa State arrested a suspect following a petition concerning alleged illegal possession of firearms. A search warrant executed at New Nyanya led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend another suspect said to be on the run and recover ammunition.

Meanwhile, security operations were intensified in Adamawa State following an invasion of Zangula Village in Gombi Local Government Area by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The police reported that combined security forces engaged the suspected terrorists in an ongoing exchange of gunfire, with the area cordoned off to contain the threat and prevent further casualties and damage.

In Niger State, police tactical teams, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), special hunters and local vigilantes were mobilised following a bandit attack along Bangi Road. Combing and tactical operations were ongoing to rescue the abducted victims unharmed and apprehend those responsible.

In Zamfara State, security operatives launched a search operation following the abduction of three persons on the outskirts of Daki Takwas Town. The abductors reportedly fled before the arrival of security personnel, prompting further combing operations to locate the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

In another incident in the state, security personnel were deployed following an attack on commuters along Kurar Mota Road, where three people sustained gunshot injuries. The victims were taken to hospital and confirmed stable, according to the police update.

The police also commenced an investigation in Ogun State into the death of a man who sustained serious injuries in an incident initially reported as an accident. Detectives visited the scene, while the corpse was deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Ota for preservation and autopsy to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether foul play was involved.

The Force said investigations into the reported incidents were ongoing across the affected states, while security operatives continued efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects, rescue abducted victims and prevent further criminal activities.
