Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have ambushed terrorists in Kaduna State, forcing them to flee and abandon stolen items, while separately rescuing three kidnapped victims in Zamfara State.
According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted on September 10 and 11, 2026, as troops sustained offensive operations against terrorist groups across the Joint Operations Area.
In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call over terrorist activities at Unguwan Gardago Village in Kaduna North Local Government Area on September 10.
The terrorists had reportedly attacked residents, stealing motorcycles and mobile phones before abducting a civilian and forcing him to guide them out of the village.
Acting swiftly on the distress call, the troops mounted an ambush along the terrorists’ withdrawal route and engaged them in a gun battle.
The sustained pressure forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning the motorcycles and other items looted from residents.
During the exploitation of the area, the troops recovered three motorcycles, one PKT machine gun working mechanism and components of a pump-action firearm, among other items.
However, the abducted civilian was killed by the terrorists before troops could rescue him. His body was subsequently recovered and handed over to his relatives.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 on September 11 observed terrorists attacking a Canter vehicle along the Anka-Gummi Road.
The troops immediately responded and made contact with the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee the area.
Three kidnapped victims were subsequently rescued, while terrorist communication equipment was recovered during the operation.
The Joint Task Force commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining operations to disrupt terrorist networks and deny them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
