The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced efforts to identify and prosecute persons responsible for generating and circulating a fake press release announcing the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.
The Force described the purported statement, titled “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Directs Commencement Of Training For 50,000 Newly Recruited Police Constables,” as false and unauthorised.
The fake document bears the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, but the police said it was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.
In a disclaimer, the Force urged members of the public, particularly police recruitment candidates, to disregard the contents of the document and rely only on information published through the official police recruitment portal and verified NPF communication channels.
The police said it was currently on the trail of those behind the generation and circulation of the false document, warning that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable.
The Force also advised recruitment candidates to exercise caution and verify all information concerning the recruitment exercise through official channels to avoid being misled by fraudulent announcements.
The development comes amid heightened interest among applicants awaiting updates on the recruitment and training of newly recruited police constables.
