A three-storey commercial building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, prompting an emergency response and search-and-rescue operation.
According to a statement by the Head of Public Affairs, FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, the building collapsed on Monday evening.
FEMD said it received a distress call about the incident at approximately 7:20 p.m., after which emergency responders were mobilised to the scene.
Eyewitnesses reportedly said there were no casualties, although emergency responders were continuing search-and-rescue operations to establish whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble.
The agency said responders were also awaiting the arrival of an excavator to enhance the search operation and facilitate access to the collapsed structure.
FEMD said details concerning the number of persons potentially affected and the cause of the collapse were still emerging.
The agency urged members of the public to remain calm and stay away from the scene to allow emergency responders and security personnel unrestricted access to carry out rescue and response operations.
Further details are expected as the search-and-rescue operation progresses.
