Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to an official statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, the troops successfully repelled the attack on September 7, 2026, during a routine patrol of the area.
The troops encountered the terrorists along the axis and responded decisively, forcing the attackers to withdraw from the area in disarray.
Following the encounter, reinforcement was deployed to enable the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct further exploitation of the surrounding area.
During the operation, the troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations.
Items recovered from the camps and ambush area included one motorcycle, bicycles, one magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs.
The military said there were no casualties among the troops during the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage in the engagement.
Despite the damage to the vehicles, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.
The operation, according to the military, demonstrates the resolve of troops of Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre.
It said the security situation within the area of responsibility remained calm but unpredictable, with troops sustaining aggressive patrols and coordinated security operations to safeguard lives and property.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities to security agencies, stressing that timely information remained critical to detecting, disrupting and neutralising terrorist activities in the theatre.
