NYSC Moves To Tighten Data Integrity, Accountability In Graduate Mobilisation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has moved to strengthen data integrity and institutional accountability in the mobilisation of eligible Nigerian graduates, as part of efforts to ensure a credible and seamless process.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this in Abuja while addressing stakeholders at the opening ceremony of the 2026 NYSC Batch ‘C’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop.

Nafiu said the Scheme would continue to deploy technology to minimise manual interventions, improve transparency and efficiency, and ensure that eligible graduates were mobilised in a credible and timely manner.

According to him, the theme of the workshop, “Strengthening Institutional Accountability, Data Integrity and Digital Innovation for Seamless NYSC Mobilisation,” captured the key priorities required to improve the mobilisation process.

The NYSC DG charged institutions and officers involved in mobilisation to take full ownership of their responsibilities, adhere strictly to approved procedures and remain accountable for their actions and decisions.

He warned that inaccurate records, unauthorised alterations of data, delayed responses and failure to meet established timelines could negatively affect the mobilisation of graduates and undermine the credibility of the Scheme.

“Every inaccurate record, unauthorised alteration of data, delayed response or failure to meet established timelines can adversely affect the mobilisation of graduates and the credibility of the Scheme,” Nafiu said.

He called on stakeholders to strengthen their digital competence and cybersecurity awareness, protect institutional databases and embrace responsible innovation.

Nafiu also emphasised the importance of internal quality assurance mechanisms before the transmission of graduates’ data to the NYSC, noting that the credibility of the mobilisation process depended on the accuracy, completeness and authenticity of information received from Corps-producing institutions.

“We must therefore be zero-tolerant of negligence, manipulation of records, abuse of process and other practices capable of compromising the integrity of our organisation,” he said.

The Director General said NYSC would leverage technology to simplify mobilisation processes, eliminate bottlenecks, reduce turnaround time and improve the experience of prospective Corps Members.

He described mobilisation as a shared responsibility, urging stakeholders to improve information sharing, maintain open communication and promptly escalate anomalies capable of affecting the process.

“Our partnership must be founded on trust, professionalism and shared responsibility, recognising that weakness in one part of the system can affect the entire mobilisation value chain,” Nafiu said.

Also speaking, the Director, Corps Mobilisation Department, Mrs. Rachel Idaewor, urged stakeholders to strictly comply with the approved mobilisation timeline as preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course gather momentum.

Idaewor called for improved verification of graduates’ data before submission, stronger institutional controls to minimise errors and measures to prevent fraudulent practices.

She further advocated the deployment of technology to automate routine mobilisation processes, stressing that such innovations should be implemented with appropriate oversight and in line with applicable national regulations and global best practices.
