Nigeria and Thailand have strengthened cooperation in agriculture, with both countries focusing on agricultural research, technology transfer, innovation and capacity development as part of efforts to improve food security and transform the sector.
The Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Dabban, stated this on Thursday, August 27, 2026, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the launch of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) initiative at the Lekki Room, Raddison Blu Anchorage Hotel, Lagos.
According to an official statement signed by Khadijat O. Ameen, Public Relations Officer to the Executive Secretary, ARCN, Dr. Dabban emphasised the importance of international partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector through knowledge exchange, modern technologies, research collaboration and human-capacity development.
He said stronger collaboration between Nigerian and Thai institutions would create opportunities for researchers, farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to access innovative approaches and practical solutions to challenges affecting food production and agricultural development.
The ARCN Executive Secretary reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting partnerships that promote agricultural research, innovation and technology transfer, stressing that such collaborations would contribute significantly to Nigeria’s food security agenda.
Also speaking, the Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State, Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, said the partnership was structured to achieve sustainable impact across different segments of the agricultural ecosystem.
Obidiegwu said the initiative would target host communities, students, farmers, cooperative societies, private-sector operators and innovators, thereby creating a broad platform for knowledge sharing and practical agricultural development.
In his presentation titled “Insights into the Thai-Nigeria Collaborative Framework,” he highlighted the history of engagement and communication between Nigeria and Thailand, noting the need to build on the relationship through concrete programmes capable of delivering measurable benefits.
He said the collaboration would provide opportunities for stakeholders to exchange expertise and adopt innovative approaches that could enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
The partnership is expected to deepen Nigeria-Thailand cooperation in agricultural research and innovation while promoting technology transfer, capacity building and agricultural entrepreneurship.
The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s food production capacity and support the food security agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
