The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu has described the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) financial support to families of fallen security personnel as a demonstration of the nation’s gratitude and compassion for those who paid the supreme price in service to Nigeria.
Disu stated this on Thursday, August 27, 2026, while delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces at the presentation of financial support to families of fallen heroes at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the event was organised by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the RHI Social Investment Programme.
The second edition of the initiative provided financial empowerment packages to families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty since the inception of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers benefited from the intervention, which was designed to help them rebuild their livelihoods and cater to their dependants.
Disu expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the intervention, stressing that the support would provide assistance to families facing the consequences of losing their loved ones in the service of the nation.
The IGP said the Renewed Hope Initiative went beyond policy, describing it as an effort to restore dignity and stand with citizens during vulnerable moments.
He assured the bereaved families that the supreme sacrifices of their loved ones would remain remembered by a grateful nation.
The ceremony was attended by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA); and wives of heads of security agencies.
The Nigeria Police Force, according to the statement, also reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and providing continued support to the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
