The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, has joined efforts to develop a five-year strategic framework for tackling emerging and evolving security threats across Nigeria.
Disu participated in the inauguration of the Committee for the Preparation of a National Threat Assessment and Five-Year Strategic Defence and Security Operations Plan on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume in Abuja.
The high-level meeting brought together senior security leaders to deliberate on the country’s evolving security environment and develop a comprehensive assessment of threats confronting the nation.
The committee is expected to produce a National Threat Assessment that will provide a strategic understanding of current and emerging security challenges, while the five-year Defence and Security Operations Plan will establish a coordinated framework for responding to identified threats.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening strategic planning, improving inter-agency coordination and ensuring that security agencies adopt more proactive and coordinated responses to contemporary security challenges.
The involvement of the IGP, CDS and Service Chiefs underscores the importance of a unified approach to national security, particularly in developing long-term strategies to safeguard national peace, stability and territorial integrity.
