The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has applauded the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) for honouring the sacrifices of fallen military and police personnel through sustained support for their families.
Shaibu made the commendation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during the second edition of the RHI Presentation of Financial Support to Widows of Fallen Heroes of the Armed Forces and Police.
The COAS joined the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police and other senior military and security leaders at the event.
Organised by the Office of the First Lady under the RHI Social Investment Programme, the initiative provides financial assistance to widows and families of personnel who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
Shaibu described the intervention as a profound demonstration of national appreciation and solidarity with the families of fallen heroes, stressing that caring for those left behind remains a collective and enduring responsibility.
He noted that supporting the families of fallen personnel goes beyond providing immediate assistance, as it also serves to honour the sacrifices made by the deceased and reinforce the morale, commitment and fighting spirit of serving troops.
The Army Chief expressed appreciation to the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative for complementing the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the welfare of personnel and their families.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to honouring its fallen heroes and ensuring that their families continue to receive the dignity, care and support they deserve.
Shaibu emphasised that the nation’s obligation to its heroes extends beyond acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice to ensuring the wellbeing of the families they left behind.
