President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence 1 of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
According to an official statement signed by Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, Chief Information Officer, for the Director, Information and Public Relations, the appointment is part of the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which brings together political leaders, strategists and grassroots mobilisers to coordinate the party’s activities ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Matawalle’s new role places him at the centre of the campaign’s security architecture, with responsibilities covering the safety of candidates, campaign officials and supporters across the country.
He is also expected to coordinate intelligence gathering and risk assessment for campaign activities by working with relevant security agencies to identify potential threats and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
The former Zamfara State Governor will further be responsible for strengthening inter-agency and stakeholder coordination, including engagements with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups to support the security framework of the campaign.
The statement said the appointment reflects President Tinubu’s confidence in Matawalle’s experience in public service, security management and political mobilisation.
As a former governor of Zamfara State, Matawalle was said to have acquired considerable experience managing complex security challenges and implementing community-based peace initiatives. In his current capacity as Minister of State for Defence, he has also been involved in strategic engagements with security agencies, policy implementation, troops’ welfare and infrastructure development.
Reacting to his appointment, Matawalle expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to deploy his experience as a former governor, serving minister and political leader towards ensuring a peaceful, well-coordinated and successful campaign.
Matawalle said he would work to ensure that the achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration are effectively communicated and taken to every part of the country during the campaign.
The appointment has continued to attract commendations from political associates and supporters, who described the assignment as a recognition of Matawalle’s experience in security coordination and grassroots mobilisation.
