The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has alerted members of the public and the media to an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account, formerly known as Twitter, urging Nigerians to disregard any suspicious or misleading content that may emanate from the platform.
The DHQ said the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with appropriate technical measures activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
According to an official statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, efforts were ongoing to fully restore control of the official account.
The military authorities consequently advised members of the public to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that might be posted from the account during the period.
The DHQ said it remained committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security and ensuring that the public continued to receive accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
To ensure uninterrupted access to verified information, the Defence Headquarters urged members of the public to rely on its active official channels on other platforms, including Facebook under “Defence Headquarters Nigeria”, Instagram at “@defenceheadquarters” and its WhatsApp Channel, “Defence Headquarters Nigeria”.
