The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has embarked on a surprise welfare outreach to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing financial assistance and relief materials to widows, women traders and families of serving police officers.

According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the unannounced visits took place on July 14 and 15, 2026, at Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and the 44 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Barracks, Kuje, ahead of the forthcoming POWA National Convention.

During the outreach, Mrs. Disu and members of her management team toured the markets within the Area C Police Barracks, interacting directly with women traders, widows and spouses of police personnel.

The team observed sparsely stocked shops and listened to firsthand accounts of the economic challenges facing police families.

As part of the intervention, selected beneficiaries received cash grants, business starter packs and food items to help them restock their businesses and improve their household livelihoods.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely intervention, describing it as a significant boost to their businesses and family welfare.

Speaking during the visit, the POWA National President explained that the outreach was deliberately conducted without prior notice to enable the association to obtain a true picture of the living conditions and economic realities confronting police families.

She said firsthand engagement with beneficiaries would enable POWA to develop and implement support programmes that directly address their needs.

Mrs. Disu noted that the intervention was carried out under the POWA CARES Initiative, which focuses on sustainable healthcare, welfare and economic empowerment for police families.

She added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The outreach also serves as a prelude to the 2026 POWA National Convention, themed “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” scheduled to hold from July 16 to 18, 2026.

According to the statement, the convention will focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment and strengthening family support systems for police personnel and their families.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to providing practical and dignity-preserving support for widows of fallen officers and the families of serving personnel through sustained welfare initiatives.
