The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have strengthened collaboration aimed at enhancing digital identity infrastructure, digital payments and data exchange systems to support national development and improve services for Nigerians at home and abroad.

According to an official statement signed by Violet Nwosu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Department of NiDCOM, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, for her reforms, resourcefulness and administrative initiatives geared towards expanding Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

Speaking during a strategic meeting between the management teams of both agencies, Dabiri-Erewa expressed confidence that the partnership would facilitate a seamless digital ecosystem, particularly for Nigerians in the diaspora through improved data mapping and identity management.

She noted that NIMC operates the largest identity database in Africa and described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’s assent to the new NIMC Act as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

The NiDCOM Chairman said the collaboration would enhance digital trust and strengthen the country’s digital governance framework, especially in serving the needs of Nigerians living abroad.

In her remarks, the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, welcomed the NiDCOM delegation and described the commission as a critical institution in advancing identity management for Nigerians across the globe.

She disclosed that following the President’s assent to the NIMC Act 2026, the commission had commenced the onboarding of key stakeholders across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that the reforms achieve their intended objectives and deliver measurable outcomes.

Coker-Odusote stated that NIMC was committed to accelerating access to the nation’s Public Digital Infrastructure and revealed plans to integrate NiDCOM into the NIMC Reform Portal to enable seamless information sharing and service delivery.

The NIMC Director General also commended NiDCOM for establishing a registration data portal for Nigerians living abroad and pledged the commission’s full cooperation in deepening the partnership.

Officials from both agencies who participated in the meeting lauded the collaboration, noting that it would strengthen Nigeria’s emerging digital governance architecture through improved digital identity management, digital payment systems and trusted data exchange mechanisms
