The Yobe State Police Command has intensified its enforcement campaign against unregistered vehicles, vehicles with covered, obscured or faded number plates, and those operating with tinted glass without valid permits, resulting in the impoundment of 67 vehicles across the state.

According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yobe State Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the operation targets motorists found violating existing traffic and security regulations, including operating vehicles without valid registration, displaying obscured or faded number plates, and using tinted glass without the required authorisation.

The statement noted that the Command considers such violations a major security concern, explaining that criminal elements often exploit unregistered vehicles, concealed number plates and unauthorised tinted glass to perpetrate crimes, including the transportation of illicit drugs and other criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, urged vehicle owners and motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, display authentic and clearly visible number plates, and obtain the necessary permits before using tinted glass where applicable.

He warned that any vehicle found violating the regulations would be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner also directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to sustain the enforcement exercise while maintaining professionalism, respecting the rights of citizens and ensuring zero tolerance for extortion.

The Police Command called on residents to comply with all vehicle registration and traffic regulations, stressing that the exercise is aimed at enhancing public safety, preventing crime and creating a more secure environment across Yobe State. It also urged members of the public to report suspicious vehicles and activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
