The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate suspension of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to an alleged corruption scandal involving the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency has said does not exist.
According to an official statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director, the party alleged that the non-existent agency was used to siphon public funds and accused the Chief of Staff of facilitating its operations.
The NDC said the allegations, made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the PFIPC, raise serious concerns about transparency, accountability and the integrity of the Tinubu administration.
The party claimed that the alleged agency received budgetary allocations in the 2026 Appropriation Act and reportedly opened a domiciliary account, a Pounds Sterling account and a Treasury Single Account (TSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria, despite the Presidency’s denial of its existence.
The NDC questioned how an agency described as fictitious could allegedly open multiple financial accounts and secure budgetary allocations without the required documentation and official approvals. It also called on the Presidency to explain the circumstances surrounding the alleged approval of 314 staff positions for the agency by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The party further referenced allegations by Prince Adeyemi that he obtained his appointment through the payment of N600 million and claimed that a request was made for 48 per cent of the agency’s take-off grant, allegations which it said warrant an independent investigation.
The NDC also expressed concern over the death of Mr. Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the matter, as well as alleged assassination attempts on Prince Adeyemi, urging investigators to examine both incidents as part of a comprehensive probe.
The opposition party demanded the immediate suspension of the Chief of Staff to allow for what it described as an impartial investigation, arguing that his continued stay in office could undermine the credibility of any inquiry.
It also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the alleged operations of the PFIPC, budgetary allocations, financial transactions, account openings and staff approvals connected to the matter.
The NDC further urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force to commence a full-scale investigation, while calling for officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to be questioned.
The party maintained that Nigerians deserve a transparent investigation and insisted that anyone found culpable, regardless of status, should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The allegations contained in the statement remain claims by the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi. The individuals and institutions mentioned have not been found liable by any court, and the allegations have not been independently verified.
