The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national security through the rigorous training of elite Special Forces personnel, as trainees of Special Forces Course 13/2026 underwent their final Physical Fitness Test at the Regiment Training Centre Annex (RTCA), Bauchi.

According to an official signed statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the assessment, conducted on 30 May 2026, marked a critical phase of the selection process for prospective Special Forces operators. The exercise subjected trainees to a series of demanding physical and mental evaluations aimed at identifying individuals with the resilience, discipline, endurance and combat mindset required for special operations.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the exercise as a vital component of the NAF’s efforts to build a highly trained and mission-ready force capable of responding effectively to evolving security threats across the country.

Air Marshal Aneke noted that the current security environment requires personnel who are physically fit, mentally resilient and prepared to undertake complex operations against terrorists, insurgents, kidnappers and other criminal elements. He reiterated the NAF’s commitment to supporting ongoing counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and internal security operations aimed at safeguarding lives, securing communities and preserving national stability.

“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to train, equip and deploy personnel capable of taking the fight to terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements wherever they may be found. Those who threaten innocent citizens, terrorise communities and undermine the peace of our nation must understand that there will be no sanctuary for criminality. Our resolve is unwavering, and our commitment to protecting Nigerians remains absolute,” the CAS stated.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commandant of RTCA Bauchi, Squadron Leader Edeama Lawrence Akpan, said the fitness assessment was designed to ensure that only trainees who demonstrate exceptional physical fitness, determination and operational readiness advance in the course.

He explained that Special Forces personnel are often required to operate in austere and hostile environments where mission success depends on physical endurance, mental toughness and an unwavering commitment to duty. According to him, the exercise serves as a key benchmark for assessing the preparedness of trainees for the rigours of special operations and future operational responsibilities.

The Nigerian Air Force said the successful conduct of the final Physical Fitness Test underscores its determination to maintain a highly capable force ready to support military operations nationwide. The Service added that through sustained investment in realistic training and uncompromising standards, it remains focused on producing elite operators capable of dominating the battlespace, protecting innocent lives and contributing significantly to the achievement of national security objectives.
