The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 27 May and Thursday, 28 May, 2026 as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.
According to an official signed statement by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The statement noted that the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo conveyed the warm felicitations of the Federal Government to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a festival of profound spiritual significance rooted in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
The Minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion for prayers and sober reflection, while seeking divine guidance for the nation as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity.
He further emphasized the importance of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity, wishing all Muslim faithful a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid ul Adha celebration.
