The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully thwarted a planned kidnapping attempt in Karu Local Government Area, arresting three suspects linked to the plot and preventing what authorities described as a serious threat to public safety.
In an official signed statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the case was reported on April 31, 2026, at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), following a complaint involving a ransom demand of five million naira. The unidentified suspects had allegedly threatened to abduct an agribusinesswoman and her children if the demand was not met.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, directed an immediate and comprehensive investigation to neutralize the threat and prevent the execution of the planned abduction.
The statement revealed that an intelligence-driven operation was subsequently launched, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Prince Eze, 19, and Marwan Salihu, 18, both residents of Agada Village in Karu LGA. Further investigative efforts led to the arrest of Hassan Mathew Yerima of Keffi, identified as the individual responsible for coordinating the collection of ransom on behalf of the syndicate.
According to SP Nansel, the suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
