The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reinforced the importance of intellectual capacity in modern security operations as it honoured retiring Assistant Commandant General, ACG Hammed Abodurin, during a ceremony marking the end of his service career and the unveiling of six authored books.

According to an official signed statement by the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, ACC Babawale Afolabi, the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, commended the Federal Government under Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms that have improved morale, enhanced operational efficiency, and addressed career stagnation within the Corps.

The CG’s remarks, delivered by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Technical Services, DCG Zakari Ibrahim Ningi, highlighted Abodurin’s legacy as a distinguished officer whose career blended operational excellence with intellectual contribution. He described the retiring senior officer as a model of thought leadership within the paramilitary structure, noting his three-time recognition as Best State Commandant.

The ceremony, held at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja ahead of Abodurin’s retirement on May 1, 2026, featured the formal launch of six publications addressing key areas of security practice, ethics, communication, and civic engagement. The event also included scholarly reviews of two major works, Daily Security Tips for School Children and Paramilitary Ethics: The Essential Standard in Paramilitary Operations, underscoring their relevance to professional standards and public awareness.

Other titles unveiled at the event include Language of Security Operations, Public Relations in Security Operations, From Voluntary to Mandatory Service, and Why Journalists Misbehave, reflecting a broad engagement with both operational and societal dimensions of security work.

The NSCDC leadership stressed that contemporary service delivery must extend beyond the use of force to include knowledge generation, policy articulation, and institutional learning, describing intellectual development as essential to sustaining an adaptive and effective security organisation.

The ceremony attracted senior figures from across the security and academic communities, including representatives of the Nigeria Correctional Service and top military officers, highlighting the cross-sector significance of the occasion.

In his remarks, ACG Abodurin expressed appreciation to the Corps leadership and his former commands in Ondo and Ogun States, noting that his career trajectory was shaped by opportunities provided within the NSCDC. He described his years of service as a blend of operational duty and scholarly pursuit, made possible by the institutional support he received.

The event underscores a broader shift within Nigeria’s security institutions toward integrating intellectual engagement with operational responsibilities as a foundation for sustainable national security.
