Honourable Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike of the Court of Appeal has called for a unified national commitment to road safety, declaring that the protection of lives on Nigerian roads must be treated as a collective responsibility.

According to an official signed statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the appellate court justice made the call during her investiture as an Honorary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Justice Nyesom-Wike urged Nigerians to move beyond passive concern and actively participate in the Special Marshals scheme, stressing that reducing road crashes requires vigilance, discipline, and sustained commitment from all road users.

The ceremony, held under the Federal Capital Territory Sector Command, was presided over by the Zonal Commanding Officer RS7HQ, Assistant Corps Marshal Comfort Asom, who represented the Corps Marshal. Delivering the Corps Marshal’s charge, Asom underscored the importance of Special Marshals as frontline advocates of road safety, urging the new inductee and other volunteers to uphold integrity, patriotism, and dedication to service.

The investiture was conducted alongside the National Coordinator of Special Marshals, Engr. Dr. Usman Adaji, and attracted the presence of several Justices of the Court of Appeal, further underscoring the significance of the event.

In his remarks, the FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen public engagement and broaden the reach of road safety campaigns across the territory. He noted that the enlistment of eminent personalities such as Justice Nyesom-Wike signals a strategic push toward influence-driven advocacy aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations.

In her acceptance speech, Justice Nyesom-Wike warned against dangerous road behaviours and called for a nationwide awakening to the persistent threat of road crashes, urging citizens to adopt safer practices and prioritize the preservation of human life.
