In a decisive move aimed at consolidating institutional capacity and strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), succeeding Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State. Simultaneously, the President renewed the tenure of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term. Both appointments take immediate effect.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onaunuga, notes that Professor Aliyu, prior to this appointment, served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. A distinguished academic and seasoned administrator, Aliyu brings a wealth of experience in research, education, and institutional leadership. His appointment signals the President’s commitment to repositioning the PTDF as a pivotal driver of human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
On his part, Engineer Abdulaziz’s tenure renewal follows a comprehensive review of his performance in leading TCN’s operations. Under his stewardship, the company has achieved significant improvements in grid stability, transmission capacity, and system modernisation. His leadership has also enhanced regional electricity integration through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), reflecting his over three decades of experience in the power sector.
The statement emphasises that both appointees are expected to execute their duties with diligence, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to national service, in alignment with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that Nigeria’s energy institutions continue to deliver strategic impact and sustainable growth.
