The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the nationwide deployment of more than 57,000 personnel as part of intensified security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Easter celebration across the country.

The large-scale security operation was approved by the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who directed that officers and specialised tactical units be mobilised to strengthen security surveillance and safeguard lives and property during the festive period.

According to a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, ACC Afolabi Babawale, the deployment will cover all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, forming part of proactive efforts to forestall potential security threats and protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure nationwide.

Babawale explained that the operational plan includes the strategic positioning of officers in high-traffic public locations such as churches, shopping centres, motor parks, and recreational facilities, where both overt patrol teams and covert intelligence operatives will maintain surveillance to deter criminal activities.

He stated that the Commandant General has directed all Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of NSCDC Colleges to ensure comprehensive security coverage within their respective jurisdictions throughout the Easter period.

Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Audi emphasised the importance of heightened vigilance and strong collaboration among security agencies to guarantee effective security management during the celebrations.

“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season,” the Commandant General said. “We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace.”

As part of the security arrangements, the Corps has also placed several specialised units on maximum operational alert. These include the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS), the Mining Marshals, the Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad, all of which are expected to play critical roles in intelligence gathering, rapid response, and enforcement operations during the period.

The NSCDC leadership noted that the deployment underscores the Corps’ continued commitment to national security, particularly during major public holidays that attract large gatherings across the country.

The Commandant General further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest NSCDC office or other security formations.

Authorities expressed confidence that the coordinated deployment and enhanced surveillance will contribute significantly to maintaining peace and ensuring that Nigerians celebrate Easter in a secure and orderly environment.
