The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has intensified efforts to ensure compliance with the Federal Character Act, as the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State and Chairman of the Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, Peter Eze, led his committee to an interactive session with the management of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The engagement, which forms part of the Commission’s broader mandate to promote fairness and national inclusion in public institutions, brought together key officials of FERMA, led by its Managing Director, Engr. (Dr.) Chukwuemeka Agbasi, for a detailed review of the agency’s operations and administrative processes.

Speaking during the session, Eze emphasized the importance of aligning institutional practices with the principles of equity, fairness, and balanced representation as enshrined in the Federal Character Act. He noted that adherence to these principles is critical not only in recruitment and staff deployment but also in ensuring that all Nigerians feel adequately represented in the affairs of government agencies.

The committee chairman further acknowledged FERMA’s strategic role in maintaining the nation’s road infrastructure, stressing that such a critical agency must continue to operate with a strong commitment to transparency and accountability in all aspects of its mandate.

The interactive session provided a platform for constructive dialogue, with both parties exchanging views on strengthening compliance mechanisms and improving institutional efficiency. Eze reiterated the committee’s resolve to sustain collaboration with relevant government agencies in order to deepen the implementation of the Federal Character policy across the country.

The meeting underscores the FCC’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive governance and ensuring that federal institutions reflect the diversity and unity of Nigeria.
