In further demonstration of its commitment to people-centred security and inclusive national development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Special Intervention Project in Adobu Community, Patani Local Government Area of Delta State, bringing tangible development directly to the grassroots.
The intervention, which reflects the NAF’s sustained strategy of winning and retaining the hearts and minds of the people, was disclosed in an official signed statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. According to the statement, the project was executed by a retired senior officer of the Service, Air Vice Marshal Ebimbowei Dennis Yinkere (Rtd), under the CAS Special Intervention Project initiative sanctioned by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
The CAS Special Intervention Project forms part of a nationwide initiative that encourages senior Air Force officers, both serving and retired, to give back to their communities as a way of strengthening civil-military relations and fostering sustainable security. In Adobu, the intervention comprised the renovation and remodelling of the Community Town Hall, as well as the conduct of a free medical outreach for residents, initiatives deliberately designed to deliver immediate social impact while building trust, cooperation and goodwill between the NAF and the civil populace.
The newly remodelled Adobu Community Town Hall was significantly upgraded to improve its aesthetic appeal and functional value, providing a dignified and welcoming central space for meetings, cultural activities, civic engagements and collective decision-making. The facility is expected to enhance community administration, promote social cohesion and serve as a hub for inclusive dialogue among traditional leaders, youth groups, women and other stakeholders within the community.
Complementing the infrastructure upgrade, the free medical outreach provided residents with access to essential healthcare services. The outreach facilitated early detection of illnesses, addressed pressing medical needs and helped ease the financial burden of healthcare on families, particularly those with limited access to medical facilities. Together, the twin interventions are expected to significantly improve the quality of life of Adobu residents.
Overall, the project reinforces the Nigerian Air Force’s image as a compassionate, development-oriented Service and affirms the principle that sustainable security outcomes are best achieved when operational effectiveness is matched with genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony through the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Chief of the Air Staff described the initiative as a critical component of the NAF’s Civil-Military Relations strategy aimed at deepening public trust and strengthening national security. He urged members of the community to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, assuring them of the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
In his remarks, the project executor, Air Vice Marshal Ebimbowei Dennis Yinkere (Rtd), expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of the Air Staff for the opportunity and support to give back to his community. He described the project as a symbol of the enduring bond between the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian people, noting that it represents the positive outcomes that can be achieved through effective collaboration between government, the military and local communities. He added that the renovated facility and medical outreach would promote unity, comfort and active civic engagement in Adobu.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including a representative of the Executive Governor of Delta State, retired senior officers of the Armed Forces, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders, reflecting broad support for the Nigerian Air Force’s people-focused approach to security and national development.
