The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the ongoing Quality of Service challenges affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja and has assured the public that measures are being taken to restore optimal services.

In an official signed statement, the Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, Mrs Nnenna Ukoha, explained that the disruptions were triggered by a diesel supply crisis affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation service provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations across the affected locations. According to her, the diesel shortages resulted from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which halted supplies to several critical sites, leading to service outages and degraded user experience.

Mrs Ukoha stated that the Commission is collaborating closely with major stakeholders and licensees to address the problem and mitigate the impact on subscribers. She stressed that the NCC recognises the central role of steady power supply in ensuring seamless communication services and is therefore prioritising interventions that will restore stability.

She noted that the Commission is actively engaging all relevant parties to resolve the diesel supply bottlenecks and explore sustainable solutions that will safeguard telecom infrastructure from such disruptions in the future. The NCC, she added, is facilitating dialogue between impacted service providers and stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution of the challenges arising from NOGASA’s actions.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting consumer interests and supporting the growth of the telecommunications sector, the Commission said it remains dedicated to managing the situation effectively and will continue to provide updates as progress is made toward full service restoration in Abuja.

The NCC thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding during the period of disruption and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality and reliable telecommunications services nationwide.
