Nasarawa Police refute claims of herdsmen attack, say viral crusade disruption report is false

The Nasarawa State Police Command has debunked reports circulating on news platforms and social media alleging that herdsmen attacked Agboda Village and disrupted a Christian crusade, describing the claims as entirely false and a gross misrepresentation of events.

In an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, the police clarified that no herdsmen attack occurred anywhere in the state and that the viral video being shared online does not reflect the true situation in Agboda Village.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the actual incident took place on 24 November 2025 at about 7:00 p.m., when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba Udege Division received information that a motorcyclist had been attacked by unknown assailants along a feeder road leading to Agboda Village. The attackers inflicted a machete cut on the victim and stole his motorcycle.

Upon receiving the report, the DPO immediately mobilised vigilante members, who, working together with police personnel, pursued the suspects. The criminals later abandoned the stolen motorcycle and escaped into the bush. The injured motorcyclist was taken to the hospital and is currently responding to treatment, while his motorcycle has since been recovered.

The Command further disclosed that one Daniel Ukpo, the individual behind the viral video, is now in police custody. Ukpo has reportedly confirmed that there was no herdsmen attack and no disruption of any crusade, explaining that residents had gathered at the scene after the robbery incident and that his video recording was subsequently misinterpreted online.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, urged religious leaders to use their platforms responsibly by promoting peace and refraining from making comments that could inflame tensions within the state or the country.

He also called on journalists and the public to verify information before publishing or sharing, warning against the dangers of circulating unverified or sensational content capable of causing unnecessary public panic.

The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious activities through designated security channels.
