The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff across various grades as part of its 2025 staff promotion exercise. The decision was taken at the Commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, 25th September 2025, chaired by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

In an official signed statement, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed that the promotions were based on the recommendations of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and carried out in line with the Commission’s Staff Conditions of Service.

Out of 515 staff shortlisted for consideration, 214 were promoted to Grade Level 07, 134 to Grade Level 06, 106 to Grade Level 05, and 17 to Grade Level 04. The approval marks the conclusion of the first phase of the exercise, covering junior staff on Grade Levels 03 to 06.

Olumekun further revealed that the promotion of senior staff has also commenced in earnest and would follow shortly as part of INEC’s commitment to continuous capacity building and staff development. He emphasized that staff promotion is a routine exercise designed to recognize merit and encourage dedication to service.

Meanwhile, the meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations for key upcoming elections, including the Anambra State Governorship election, the Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the conduct of party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun State Governorship elections.

Reiterating the Commission’s commitment to staff welfare, Olumekun urged all INEC personnel to rededicate themselves to service, especially in ensuring credible elections and smooth electoral processes across the country.
