The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at advancing climate action in Nigeria through solutions that connect climate intelligence with public health, food and nutrition security, soil health, and community resilience.

The collaboration will focus on developing early-warning systems tailored for local farmers, enabling them to respond proactively to adverse weather conditions. Both organizations will also roll out community workshops on climate-smart agriculture, equipping farmers with adaptation techniques informed by real-time climate data. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to boost crop yields in target communities while also reducing climate-related health risks by ensuring that timely alerts reach both farmers and frontline health workers.

Speaking at the formalization of the partnership, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, stressed the urgency of integrating climate intelligence into everyday community life. He underscored the role of meteorological services in reducing health vulnerabilities, strengthening food and nutrition security, improving soil health, and building disaster resilience. He assured that NiMet’s primary contribution would be the provision of accurate meteorological data and tailored forecasts, which he described as indispensable tools for the success of the intervention.

On his part, Dr. Mahmud Mustafa, Head of Missions at C-WINS, congratulated NiMet on its recent milestones and reiterated C-WINS’s dedication to translating climate data into practical outcomes. He noted that the organization would leverage NiMet’s forecasts to design training programs for health workers, lead community engagement sessions, and support farmers with adaptive practices rooted in local climate realities. This, he explained, would ensure that climate information is not only accessible but also actionable, particularly in rural communities where resilience is most urgently needed.

The synergy between NiMet and C-WINS is expected to deliver multiple benefits: from improved agricultural productivity and enhanced soil health to reduced climate-related health incidents and a more informed citizenry. Ultimately, the partnership aims to empower communities to thrive despite the growing challenges posed by climate change, marking a significant step toward a more climate-resilient Nigeria.
