The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration as it hosted the newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, at its Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, 17 September 2025. The visit marked a significant step in enhancing synergy between the two security institutions, particularly in the areas of strategic communications, public engagement, and institutional trust.

Welcoming the Force PRO, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, praised Hundeyin for his humility and sense of responsibility in assuming the sensitive role of spokesperson for the Police Force. Drawing from his own wealth of experience, Maiwada offered practical guidance on navigating the complexities of public relations in a challenging security environment.

“Public relations is a learning curve. You will face stakeholders with different expectations, but teamwork remains the driving force for success. Build a committed team, harness the energy of young officers, and learn from your predecessors. These are the keys to leaving a lasting legacy as a spokesperson,” Maiwada counseled.

He also highlighted the demanding nature of the spokesperson’s duty, particularly during periods of crisis, stressing that professionalism, commitment, and resilience are indispensable qualities in protecting the reputation of security institutions. “Ours is a transient responsibility, but what truly matters is the legacy we leave behind,” he added.

In his remarks, CSP Hundeyin expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him, describing his courtesy visit as a symbolic gesture of partnership between the Police and the Customs Service. He noted that effective security communication cannot be achieved in isolation and called for deeper collaboration between the two institutions in pursuit of shared national objectives.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Public Relations Sub-unit and the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN), where the Force PRO was briefed on the Service’s growing communication infrastructure. The engagement further underscored the readiness of both agencies to leverage institutional partnerships in strengthening national security and public confidence.
