The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) in order to boost food production and achieve sustainable food security across the country, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This assurance was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, when he received a high-level delegation of AFGSAN led by its National President, Alhaji Haruna Ahmad Pambegua, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

Speaking at the meeting, Senator Akume commended the association for its contributions to agricultural development and stressed that the Federal Government recognises the need to empower the group to expand its capacity. “The Association needs support to enable it to do more in boosting food production, and the present administration is willing to support the Association to contribute immensely in boosting food security in the country,” Akume said. He assured the delegation that their requests would be tabled before President Tinubu for due consideration.

The SGF further highlighted government’s ongoing efforts at revolutionising agriculture, noting that new tractors and trucks had been imported, while dams and access roads were being constructed nationwide to increase output and enhance distribution. He urged the Association to complement these efforts by helping publicise the government’s achievements in the sector.

Earlier in his remarks, the National President of AFGSAN, Alhaji Haruna Ahmad Pambegua, praised the Tinubu administration for rolling out policies and programmes which, he said, had positively impacted the lives of ordinary Nigerians. He pledged the association’s continued support to the government, assuring that members were ready to contribute their quota towards achieving food security.

Pambegua, however, appealed for greater support from the Federal Government, particularly in the allocation of tractors, fertilisers and farm implements at subsidised rates. According to him, such assistance would strengthen AFGSAN’s capacity in the production, supply and delivery of agricultural produce across the country.
