The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that the government is fully committed to improving standards in the sector and expanding access for all Nigerians.
Director, Information & Public Relations OSGF, Segun Imohiosen in an official signed statement disclosed that Senator Akume made the remarks in Abuja when he received a high-powered delegation from the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim & Seraphim (ESOCS), led by its Prelate, His Most Eminence Baba Aladura David Bob-Manuel, during a courtesy visit to his office.
The SGF recalled that President Tinubu, during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, took a bold step by returning missionary schools to their original owners despite stiff resistance, a move that paved the way for better management of those institutions. He noted that this same spirit of reform is evident in the administration’s current education agenda, citing the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides eligible students with interest-free loans to pursue higher education.
Senator Akume also commended the role of religious bodies in Nigeria, acknowledging their contributions to education, healthcare, peace, and national unity. He assured the ESOCS leadership that government is open to stronger partnerships with faith-based organisations in promoting peaceful coexistence and driving sustainable development across the country.
Speaking earlier, Baba Aladura Bob-Manuel pledged the Church’s unalloyed solidarity with President Tinubu and his administration. He congratulated the President on his election victory and Senator Akume on his appointment as SGF, assuring that ESOCS was prepared to collaborate with government in actualising the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The visit featured the presentation of centenary souvenirs to the SGF in commemoration of the church’s 100 years of ministry, as well as special prayers for President Tinubu, Senator Akume, and Nigeria at large, seeking peace, unity, and sustainable development.
