The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in internal security efforts following the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, forty-five rounds of live ammunition, and a suspected stolen motorcycle in Keana Local Government Area.
According to an official signed statement by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Nasarawa State Command, the incident occurred on June 7, 2025, at approximately 4:00pm, after the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, received credible intelligence concerning the movement of a suspected criminal believed to be transporting arms and ammunition. Acting on the intelligence, the Commissioner directed a swift and coordinated manhunt to intercept the suspect.
In line with the directive, operatives of the Giza Division promptly mounted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Giza-Kadarko Road. During the operation, a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was flagged down for questioning. However, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush, successfully evading arrest.
A thorough search of the abandoned motorcycle led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle with breach number 0413, two magazines, and forty-five rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition. Preliminary investigations suggest a strong link to ongoing criminal activity in the region.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and to determine the source and intended destination of the recovered weapon and ammunition.
The Command reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency contact lines.
